VCA Glasgow Animal Hospital

Robert Flanagan, DVM, Medical Director

DVM, Washington State University
University Of Delaware

Biography

Dr. Flanagan was raised in Wilmington, Delaware and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science with minors in Biology and Entomology from the University of Delaware. He then attended Washington State University Veterinary Medical School where he achieved his DVM degree. He has been a resident of Delaware since 1979. He has been our hospitals medical director since 2001. As a breeder of golden retrievers for more than 12 years, he is well versed in dog breeding. His outside hobby interests include skiing, snowboarding, racquetball and going to Walt Disney World every chance he gets. Most of all Dr. Flanagan enjoys time outside of the hospital with his wife Karli Flanagan who is also a veterinarian and their two sons and his golden retrievers.

"After 13 years, when asked about my job, I still feel proud to be a veterinarian. To be a vet is a fairly noble calling. I know we are not responsible for world peace or reducing global warming, but vets are people who decided to commit themselves to caring for animals. Helping sick and injured animals and advising families on the well-being of their pets is the heart of what I do every day. There is no set work schedule, no 9-5 timeclock in this profession. For me, being a vet is more than just a job, it is a lifestyle. I take my work home with me everyday, and don't foresee myself ever retiring. It's not a job if you love what you do, and I can't imagine doing anything else."
