Safety and Comfort

Your pet's safety and comfort during surgery are our highest priorities. Before surgery, we perform a complete examination of your pet in order to detect any abnormalities that might complicate surgery. This exam also helps us develop an anesthetic protocol for your pet.

During surgery, we use modern anesthetic procedures so that your pet remains comfortable and pain free. Lakeside Animal Hospital uses isoflurane anesthesia and will also medicate your pet with ant-inflammatory medications or opioids such as buprenorphine. Your pet's vital signs are monitored during surgery using advanced surgical monitoring equipment. A trained veterinary technician is present during surgery to monitor your pet's condition, including his or her heart rate, respiration rate, temperature, blood pressure and carbon dioxide level.

Your pet recovers from surgery more quickly when he or she is not in pain. Your pet receives pain medication before and after surgery. We may also send home pain management medication with your pet when he or she is discharged from the hospital. All clients are encouraged to talk to their pet's attending veterinarian about pain management before and after surgery.
