In-House Laboratory

At VCA Central Kitsap Animal Hospital, we are fully equipped with in-house laboratory analyzers that allow our veterinarians to quickly obtain diagnostic results on a variety of samples to achieve an accurate and rapid diagnosis. This is especially important for our 24-hour emergency service, when timely results are important in order to make the best decisions regarding treatment and monitoring. We are able to perform complete blood counts, complete blood chemistries, urinalysis, blood gases, ionized calcium, lactate, and coagulation (blood clotting) times. We also routinely perform microscopic examination of ear swabs, skin scrapings, and lump aspirates. We are able to test in-house for a number of infectious diseases including parvovirus, feline leukemia, and FIV.
When additional or advanced testing is needed, including the expert evaluation of samples by board-certified pathologists and parasitologists, we will recommend samples be sent to an outside laboratory for the appropriate testing.
