Dr. Averill graduated from Ohio State Veterinary school in 1989, cum laude. She completed an internship at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey the following year. She came to VCA Brown Animal Hospital in 1991 and enjoyed treating cats and dogs here ever since.

Former president of the Greater Burlington Area Veterinarians as well as the Vermont Veterinary Medical Association, Susan is married to Peter Averill, a practicing dairy veterinarian. They have two grown daughters, Hannah and Summer, who now live on the West Coast since they both enjoy skiing big mountains. They presently have a Jack Russell terrier named Stella. Since Stella has a rare neurological condition called Spinocerebellar Ataxia which makes it difficult for her to walk, they have their hands full right now!

When not working, Susan enjoys gardening and camping, and she has taken numerous long camping trips in their old vintage camper.
