VCA Airline staff
VCA Airline Animal Hospital has been serving the Metairie community since 1953. We know that pets are important family members, and look forward to providing you and your pet with the highest quality of care and attention. This includes routine preventative care, early detection and treatment of disease, and complete medical and surgical care. We are open Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 6pm and Saturday, 7:30am to 1pm.
When you come in, you'll see exactly why our veterinarians are praised for their kind and thorough care. We will also carefully track the course of your pet's care, which is so important to your pet's long-term health.
In every case, you'll be served by experienced, knowledgeable members of our staff. Our veterinarians, veterinary technicians and other pet-friendly personnel are trained to the highest standards. Their knowledge of the latest veterinary medicines and procedures ensures that all our pet patients get the best in prevention and healing methods.
Local Medical Issues
There are numerous local environmental issues unique to this region that can impact your pet's health, and require your attention over the year. For example, there is heartworm disease, which can affect both cats and dogs. Since it's transmitted by the mosquitoes which thrive in our region, heartworm disease is a serious cause for concern. Further, since the winter temperatures do not get cold enough here to kill mosquito eggs, it is a year-round problem! Likewise for potential flea infestation or intestinal parasites. Finally, contrary to what you'd expect, skin and ear allergies are a year-round issue in southern Louisiana. Many pets suffer from skin and ear allergies. Some signs of allergies include scratching, redness in the ears, and "scaly" skin.
