Caren Lawrence, DVM, CCRT, Medical Director
Dr. Caren Lawrence is our Medical Director and is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT). She has been practicing veterinary medicine since 2004.
Born and raised in Tulsa, Dr. Lawrence knew at the young age of six that she wanted to become a veterinarian. She graduated high school from Booker T. Washington and continued her undergraduate studies in Biology at Oklahoma State University. Three years later she was accepted into the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2004. After earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine she practiced at a small animal clinic in Bartlesville, OK. In 2006, she happily returned to Tulsa and joined the VCA team. She has been working in VCA veterinary hospitals ever since and became the Medical Director at VCA Woodland South Animal Hospital in 2013.
In 2012, Dr. Lawrence became certified in Canine Rehabilitation Therapy and runs our Canine Rehabilitation program. She also has a special interest and has had extensive post graduate training in soft tissue surgery, laser surgery, knee surgery and dentistry.
Dr. Lawrence is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Oklahoma Veterinary Medical Association, the Tulsa Veterinary Medical Association, the Veterinary Information Network, the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management and Four Leg Rehab Inc. (Canine Rehab Educational Resources).
“To be able to provide pets with high quality medicine and care and help alleviate the concern and worry that their owners feel is the most satisfying aspect of being a veterinarian,” she says. “I believe that it is so important to not only practice the best medicine possible but to do so in a way that is stress free for my canine and feline patients. I am passionate about treating animals and developing strong bonds with the people that love and care for them.”
In her free time, Dr. Lawrence enjoys traveling, outdoor sports and spending time with her daughter, Quin. Dr. Lawrence and her husband enjoy hiking, skiing and competing in marathons and triathlons around the world. Dr. Lawrence is attempting to run a marathon on all 7 continents. She has completed marathons in North America, Europe and Antarctica.
Dr. Lawrence and her husband share their home with five rescue animals. They have a beautiful Bernese Mountain Dog named Coozie and four very special cats: Zoey, Max, Moses and Flipper.
