Janet Simowitz, DVM, Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Janet Simowitz and Kovu
Biography
I knew that I was going to be a vet since I was in elementary school. Of course it started with a genuine love of animals, in my case, horses; we just clicked. Beyond the love was the belief that I could understand them and help them. As I went through vet school, I realized that what I really can do best is to educate families about how they can take care of their pets so that they can be together as long as possible.
Becoming a veterinarian was always in my plan, but I actually took an interesting road to get here. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Spanish Literature from Hofstra University, and for 5 years worked as a researcher for Newsday, a daily newspaper based in New York.
I finally left New York and headed south to pursue my dream, and in 1996, graduated from veterinary school with honors. I now live with my 3 cats, and when not at the hospital, I am at the gym or underwater.
