VCA Wickaboag Animal Hospital

Harriet Blanton, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

DVM, Washington State University

Biography

Growing up as one of three siblings on a Kansas farm, Dr. Blanton always knew exactly what she wanted to be when she grew up. A veterinarian, of course! "Who could imagine a better job than playing with animals all day?" says Dr. Blanton, who received her D.V.M. degree from Washington State University in 1991.

Dr. Blanton specializes in internal medicine, and is particularly interested in animal behavior and the human-animal bond. Her most memorable veterinary experience so far has been setting the broken leg of a "sweet, pregnant rat." Dr. Blanton's hard work was well-rewarded when the rat's one-year-old owner brought her pet back to the hospital a month later -- accompanied by a litter of eight!

Dr. Blanton stays active with snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and scuba diving. In her free time, she enjoys spinning wool, knitting, and baking. She shares her home with Jen, a three-legged "mutt"; two cats (multi-toed kitty Josie, and Holly, who was Josie's foster "mom"); Wally and Marty the two cockatiels; and her 18-year-old gopher snake.
