Biography
Kate Gardner was raised in Howard County, Maryland, the youngest of four sisters. She obtained her undergraduate and veterinary degrees in Blacksburg at Virginia Tech and the VA-MD Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. In 2001, Dr. Gardner started her career with a one-year internship then a three-year small animal surgery residency at The Ohio State University. Dr. Gardner participated in the surgical training of three classes of veterinary students and interns at Ohio State, and was honored with the SCAVMA Outstanding Teacher Award in 2004. In 2005, Dr. Gardner returned to Virginia and spent five years as a member of the specialty surgical team at SouthPaws Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Center. Dr. Gardner joined a general practice in Alexandria in 2010 and was named one of Virginia’s Top 100 Veterinarians in 2011. She became medical director for our hospital in 2012.
Dr. Gardner enjoys wine tasting, autumn and spring camping, and spending time with her husband Stewart and their pets. Their furry family consists of a three-legged domestic shorthair cat named Carmen and two American Bullnese dogs, Roscoe and Tallulah.
