Hospital ManagerDerek Escaranio
Derek was born and raised in Antioch, California but moved to Oregon in 2003. He started working for VCA Clackamas Animal Hospital in the Portland Metro Area as a Kennel Assistant in 2004. Over the years, Derek has taken steps to expand both his knowledge and skills in the field of veterinary medicine and was promoted to Lead Veterinary Technician at VCA Clackamas in May 2009. His practice is primarily dealing with dogs and cats, however, he has, on rare occasion, had the opportunity to assist in the treatment of rats, ferrets, hamsters, rabbits, a few types of birds, and guinea pigs.
Although Derek has not attended any veterinary college he has enjoyed learning the field through hands on training. He has had the opportunity to further his education in a wide area of veterinary medicine including anesthesiology, parasitology, radiology, dentistry, feline and canine preventive care, emergency triage, pain management, and diet and weight management. Over the years he has also become certified in Radiology and Parasitology, and in 2009 became a certified Veterinary Nutritional Advocate.
Derek returned to his home state of California in June 2013 to manage VCA Tender Care. It is his hope that in joining the team at VCA Tender Care he is able to expand his knowledge in Western medicine even further, as well as being able enjoy his new venture into the world of holistic medicine!
