Local Medical Issues

Your pet can't tell you when something's wrong. Our veterinarians are trained to recognize the subtle signs that can indicate an animal has a problem. They use the same diagnostic tools as your own physician"blood tests, urinalysis, X-rays, ultrasonography, and more"to help pinpoint or rule out problems. An annual visit includes the following: A health consultation, hands-on examination, vaccinations, fecal exam, additional diagnostic tests, and recommendation on routine wellness care. Pets age four to seven times faster than we do, so their health problems can progress much more rapidly than ours. Have your pet examined at least every 12 months; don't put off a veterinary visit if you suspect a problem.

Your pets are family members. As with any member of your family, it's important to keep your companion healthy and free of parasites. Parasites can affect your pet in a variety of ways, ranging from simple irritation to life-threatening conditions if left untreated. Some parasites carry zoonotic diseases, that is, diseases that can be transmitted directly or indirectly from animals to humans. For example, some worms can be transmitted in the environment. Our doctors recommend fecal samples routinely with every exam.

Canine Flu Alert!

Many of our clients have asked about the threat of canine influenza to their dogs. Canine flu is a highly contagious respiratory virus with nearly all dogs that are exposed becoming infected within a few days after exposure. This disease is highly contagious, so dogs that are around other dogs (boarding, grooming, dog shows, dog parks, contact with neighbors’ dogs) are at increased risk. About 80% of exposed dogs will go on to develop signs. Typical symptoms resemble those of kennel cough: a persistent cough (often accompanied by a nasal discharge). Some dogs go on to develop pneumonia and can become critically ill. A new vaccine is available that can reduce this risk. Call NOW to discuss this threat!
