Dr. Fitzsimmons is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. She received her undergraduate degree from Loyola College and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University. Dr. Fitzsimmons moved to St. Mary's County in 1993 and joined VCA St. Mary's Animal Hospital.
Dr. Fitzsimmons has a special interest in the care of small mammals. She also has a special interest in feline medicine and geriatric medicine.
Dr. Fitzsimmons enjoys outdoor activities in her spare time including camping and kayaking with her family and friends. She also enjoys sewing, collecting carousel horses, and watching her daughter participate in many Special Olympics sports. Why I joined the Veterinary field: Every since I can remember I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. At 16 I volunteered at a hospital and was hooked. I married my wonderful husband Bill in 1993 and had my daughter Amanda 5 years later. Due to Amanda's disabilities we are involved with St. Mary's County Special Olympics as well as MDA which keep all of us very busy. Even our dog Delilah has come to some Special Olympic events.
