    Veterinary Tech School: Harcum College

    Barb has been with VCA Smoketown Animal Hospital since 2007. She graduated as a certified Veterinary Technician in 2008 from Harcum College. She became the Technician Supervisor in 2013 and really enjoys assisting the technicians in reaching their full potential. Barb stays active in yoga, boxing, running and keeping up with her daughter! In her down time she enjoys eating out and watching movies. Barb has a boxer and cavalier kings charles spaniel and a cat.

    " I attended college orginally for human nursing. Close to my graduation date I realized that just was not the perfect fit for me. When I did some career research I discovered Veterinary Medicine. I do what I do because Veterinary Medicine fills my need for a career that involves the science of medicine while giving me the opportunity to provide animals the best care available to them".

    Jennifer Esworthy
    Veterinary Tech School: Harcum College

    Jen has been with VCA Smoketown since 2004. She graduated in 1995 from Harcum College. Prior to becoming part of the Smoketown team she was an Arabic Linguist in the United States Air force for six years. Jen's time is filled with her husband and two children Teagan and Marley, as well as her fur family Abby, Zoey and Spiderman.


    " I do what I do, because I want to be a part of making a difference in the lives of all animals. They are so innocent just like children and deserve our upmost respect."

    Jackiee Laukhuff
    Veterinary Tech School: Vet Tech Institute

    Jackiee started at VCA Smoketown in 2008 after graduating from the Vet Tech Institiute. She enjoys anesthesia, surgery and emergency medicine. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and pets, going to concerts, the beach, hiking, traveling and trying new foods.

    "I do what I do because I love medicine and animals, it was the right career path for me. I love a challange and to be able to help an animal that can't communicate what is hurting them is a great rewarding challange."

    Veterinary Tech School: Harcum College
    School: Penn State University, BS

    Kyla has been with VCA Smoketown since 2008. She earned her BA from Penn State prior to attending Harcum College.  In her spare time Kyla likes to watch movies & Football, work part time on a dairy farm and spend time with her family and friends. Kyla has a pitbull named Penny.

    " I am a Vet Tech because I enjoyed science as a kid and starting in college I got envolved with animals both large and small. I enjoyed the production side of large animal, but small animal science was for me."

    Tara Alexander

    Growing up, Tara always had a passion for all animals and living things. After working at the local animal shelter for many years she started as a veterinary technician for VCA in 2006. Originally she started at the Bridgeport location for 6 years and helped in many areas of the hospital including kennel and reception duties. Tara says "the best part about her job is helping patients be healthy, happy and comfortable". Currently she has 6 cats, 1 Boa Constrictor and an Uromastyx Lizard. In her free time she enjoys music, art, muscle and classic cars, cooking,anything to do with the outdoors and being with her loved ones.

    " I do what I do because I love to interact with patients and make them comfortable and healthy. I enjoy learning new things and in Veterinary Medicine there is always something to learn. Animals have always been a huge part of my life and I feel very lucky and grateful to be able to work here."

    Theresa has been with VCA Smoketown since 2001. She provides our surgery and hospitalized patients with the extra care they require.  Theresa enjoys spending time with her family and pets.

    School: Arolsen (Germany) Technical Drafting

    Tina has been with VCA Smoketown Animal Hospital since 1998. Tina's special interests include surgery, radiology, dentistry and behavior. In her spare time Tina enjoys gardening, hiking, photograpy, music, and art.

    " I do what I do because I love animals and the medical science used in helping them fascinates me. I also love helping people understand the complexities of what their loved ones are going through and how to keep them healthy."

    Julie Brunner

    Julie has been working at VCA Smoketown since May 2011. Her special interests are critical care, phlebotomy and client services. When she is not working Julie enjoys reading, painting, making jewelry, spending time with friends & family. Julie has 2 pugs Rooter & Mister Man, a terrier Mix, Elle and 3 cats Abby, Gretta and Fuzzbuzz.


    " I have always felt a special connection with animals. I find my position here at VCA Smoketown Animal Hospital to be very rewarding because I get the very important task of helping to educate clients about their pet's health."

    Beth has been with VCA Smoketown Animal Hospital since 2004. Beth has special interests in Surgery, Radiology, Customer Service, Dentistry, Exotics, Zoonitic Diseases & Pain Management. In her spare time Beth enjoys Photography, Painting, Reading, Reptile Rescue/Education and Pug Rescue.

    "I do what I do because I love that Veterinary Medicine is forever evolving. As I work in our dentistry department I am able to use my skills and knowledge to keep current in dentistry."

    Kristin has been with VCA Smoketown since 2007. Her love for animals has directed her life into this field and she has never looked back. In  her spare time she enjoys traveling, hiking & being outdoors. Kristin has a Dachshund, Slinky and a pit bull Kona.

    Corey Pierce

    Corey has been working at VCA Smoketown since 2003. Corey started here in the kennel & is now a technician. He has been a member of the Air National Guard since 2005 and has deployed twice. in his free time, Corey enjoys sailing, hiking, hunting,camping and traveling. When not at work, Corey can usually be found on the water, whether that be boating, fishing, swimming, or Scuba diving.

    " Being a part of the team that makes a pet better when they leave our hospital makes me love what I do. I feel like I can be a part of so many pets lives doing what I do."

    Lauren Reardon
    Veterinary Tech School: Vet Tech Institute

    Lauren has been with VCA Smoketown Animal Hospital since 2010, her special interests are Preventive Care and Appointments.When not working she enjoys the outdoors and taking hikes. Lauren has a Pitbull mix, Hendrix.

    " I do what I do because I love to help animals feel better and offer the best care and compassion I can to each and every animal as they were my own. I enjoy hearing stories from clients about their beloved pets its all most like I have become part of their family."

    Beth Walters

    Beth began her formal career as a Veterinary Technician in 1985. She started at VCA Bridgeport Animal Hospital in 2005, and in 2012 she joined the VCA Smoketown Team. In her spare time Beth enjoys gardening, reading and spending time with her pets and grandchildren. She currently has quail, turkeys, ducks, chickens, rabbits, and a beagle named Annie.

    "As a child, I was an avid fan of "Lassie". My mother says I would cry during every episode. Growing up, we had a neighbor who was a veterinarian and I was involved in the animal welfare field from a young age. This job is a mystery, a joy and a constant learning experience. And yes, sometimes I still cry."

    Nicole has worked at Smoketown since 2001. She is a part time technician and also part of our Canine Rehabilitation department. In her spare time she enjoys playing soccer, spending time with her family, husband David and 2 daughters Madison and Ava.

    " I enjoy educating clients, working with the animals and helping pets recover after a surgery. My passion is working in the rehab department, because I am vital part of helping pets resume their normal activity after a procedure."

    Sue has been working at VCA Smoketown since 2002. In her spare time Sue enjoys spending time with friends & her 2 dogs.

    Stacia has been working at VCA Smoketown since 2000, Stacia is a veterinary assistant and also helps out in the kennel. In her spare time Stacia enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 boys, gardening, cooking & her dogs.

    " As I work with in our Physical Rehabilitation Department I do it for the satisfaction of seeing and being a part of the progression of our rehab patients. There is such a great reward in helping and witnessing a patient take a step towards their physical wellness."
