Marie Higel, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

DVM, Colorado State University

Dr. Marie Higel is originally from Arizona, has always had a love for animals, and a passion for veterinary medicine.  She takes pride in supporting the bond that clients share with their pets, and care about her patients as if they were her own family members.  While working towards her degree in veterinary medicine, she was a veterinary technician for over 12 years.  She earned her degree in veterinary science from the University of Arizona in 2003. She went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 2007.  Dr. Higel pursues many continuing education opportunities every year, to ensure her patients are getting the best care.  Her special skills and interests are small animal orthopedic and soft tissue surgery (including Arthrex Tightrope cranial cruciate ligament repair), emergency medicine, and exotic animals including reptiles, birds and small mammals.  She has loved living in Oregon since 2007, and happily joined VCA Rock Creek Animal Hospital in the fall of 2009.

Outside of work, Dr. Higel enjoys spending time with her husband, their two fun and active daughters, one crazy dog, two cats, and many fish.  She also enjoys cooking, amateur nature photography, and all the ocean beaches, rivers, lakes and beautiful landscapes the Northwest has to offer.
