Marie Higel, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Marie Higel grew up in Arizona and has had a lifelong passion for veterinary medicine.  She takes pride in supporting the bond that clients share with their pets, and giving all her patients the care and attention they deserve,  While working towards her degree in veterinary medicine, she was a veterinary technician for over 12 years.  She earned her degree in veterinary science from the University of Arizona in 2003.  She then went on to earn her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Colorado State University in 2007.  She moved to Oregon shortly after graduation and happily joined VCA Rock Creek Animal Hospital in 2009.  Her special interests include surgery and emergency medicine for cats and dogs, as well as exotic animals including small mammals, reptiles & birds.  Dr. Higel pursues many continuing education opportunities for small animal medicine, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery (including the Arthrex Trightrope cranial cruciate ligament repair), as well as exotic animal medicine and surgery.

Outside of work, Dr. Higel enjoys spending time with her husband (Joe), their two daughters (Evie & Leora), two crazy cats (Loki & Panda), and a very active dog (Drifter).  She also loves cooking, amateur nature photography, and enjoying all the ocean beaches, rivers and lakes the Northwest has to offer.
