Joseph Martinez, DVM, Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Martinez graduated in 1997 from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. In 1998 he completed an internship at Garden State Veterinary Specialist in New Jersey and then followed that with several years in private practice in the New England area. In 2002, while recovering from his third open heart surgery for a congenital heart defect, he studied Perfusion Technology at Northeastern University and Brigham and Women's Hospital. From 2003 to 2006 he served in a Fellowship in Cardiac Surgery at Children's Hospital Boston, and held an appointment as instructor in the Departments of Surgery and Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining Robert's Animal Hospital in 2007, Dr. Martinez completed one year of a residency in Cardiology at Angel Animal Medical Center. Dr. Martinez hails from Boston, but considers Colorado, where he spent many of his formative years, his second home. He currently resides in Boston with his lovely bride Wendy. They have a beautiful little boy, five cats, Harley a retriever, a fish tank, and an imaginary monster in their bomb shelter named Randall. All of his spare time is spent with his family enjoying the great wealth of riches that life has to offer. He also enjoys cycling, fine dining, building Lego sets, is a bit of a coffee connoisseur, and hopes to rediscover the joys of home beer brewing.
His professional interests include cardiology, emergency medicine and critical care. He has special training, experience, and a strong interest in cardiothoracic medicine, echocardiography, and thoracoscopy, a minimally invasive technique to perform thoracic procedures, such as partial pericardiectomy and thoracic biopsies.
