Dr. Jacobsen
-The Morrow's from Sammamish, WA
Pet Name: RoxieI am sending a VERY LARGE THANK YOU to Dr. "J" for helping my lab Roxie out this week. She and I were pheasant hunting near Stillwater and as she was in the process of retrieving a bird she was overcome with bee stings (yellow jackets). Dr. J was kind enough to take time out of his schedule to help out. Roxie is doing great and we were back hunting again today.

Professional Caring men and women
-Heidi's Mom from Bellevue, WA
Pet Name: Heidi
I have been going to Redwood for over 13 years. They treat me more like a friend than a client. They are so sweet to my dog, Heidi. Last April when I lost my beloved Dobie Archer, Dr. Karen West weeped with me and helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life. I moved about 15-20 miles away, but still come to them and will continue to with every new dog I get. They are the greatest! -
VCA Redwood Animal Hospital
-Michele from Kirkland, WA
Pet Name: All PetsI was reminded the other day of the legacy and family that Dr. Ken Jacobsen and his staff created many years ago when Redwood Animal Hospital was purchased. I came across an old picture of a little Persian kitten whose first physical exam took place at Redwood.
We’ve been a client of Redwood since its early years. Our first veterinarian was Dr. Samantha Ahrens and we loved her. She moved away and we saw a different veterinarian. We loved her just as much. Eventually we had so many pets and were bringing in so many for rescue organizations that we had no choice but to get to know every veterinarian and support staff member. It was impossible not to know the owner, the medical director, the office manager and everyone in front of and behind the scenes. They were like family to us.
Redwood and Dr. Jacobsen’s legacy are now owned and managed by a corporation which never knew Dr. Ahrens nor does it know any of the animals I bring in for help. That corporation makes it possible for my animals to get the care they need. It relies on the staff to establish and maintain the personal relationship. It’s different, it’s new, but it’s working out pretty well. We are all humbled, surprised, impressed, and occasionally saddened… together.
It’s a real family of real people who happen to now work for a corporation. The letterhead has changed, is all.
That family inspired and has supported a young rescue organization named after one of the staff, Rebecca Nanna who fought cancer for years and finally lost that battle. The corporation itself may not have time to recognize that group or the people and history involved but they are compassionate enough and care about their staff to support it.
There have been a few changes that us old timers sometimes question but Dr. Karen West the Medical Director and Jika Martinez the head administrator are there to listen, explain, make exceptions and changes where they can.
Redwood is wonderful enough that people come from out of the county to see their veterinarians. For those of us who live just up the hill from them, we are additionally fortunate for the convenience and location of this "family." -
Jika Martinez
-Charles Buchwalter from Woodinville, WAWhen we recently moved to Tokyo, we were aware of the six month waiting period required for our dog to gain entrance to the country. Jika Martinez and the entire team from Redwood Animal Hospital were simply incredible through the entire process. First, they thoroughly understood the the Japanese rules and regulations inside out. Second, Jika stayed in close contact with my brother-in-law who was taking care of our dog in the Seattle area during the 6 month waiting period when we were already in Tokyo. Third, Jika was willing to be in direct contact with the Quarantine Services at Narita airport to have them review and approve all of the required forms prior to the dog flying over to Tokyo. Fourth, Jika was available pretty much all the time! Whenever I sent an email from Tokyo (16 hours ahead of Woodinville), Jika would answer with barely a 5 minute delay. When my brother-in-law had questions or needed to visit the hospital, the team was always available. Moving an animal to another country, and especially an island country, is very challenging and we've heard many nightmare stories. Thanks to Jika and the Redwood Hospital team, the process worked like a hot knife through butter, and for that we are very grateful. If you have a similar need, you will be in great hands working with this team.

Kind, Caring, Committed Professionals
-Alixander Family from Sammamish, WA
Pet Name: Ripley, Sadie, Frisco
We have had our 3 poms coming to Redwood for nearly 15 years, they have seen us through puppy times and elder dog years with care and compassion. The expertise and specialist-connections have ensured that the quality of life of our beloved pets/kids is as good as possible. When it came time to say goodbye the entire staff, and of course Dr. Rachel, were amazing, kind and absolutely compassion-filled as this was our first such experience.
We continually recommend Redwood Animal Hospital to friends and neighbors. We look forward to introducing our next 'kid' to the staff!
Thank you, for everything!
The Alixanders - Dana and Sage, plus Ripley and Sadie (and Frisco, from Heaven) -
Thank you, Dr. Karen West
-Beth Marsh from Kirkland, WA
Pet Name: LeviA couple of years ago, I was at my witt's end with my German Shepherd and his behaviors. He had bit my husband and was wild and out of control. I had tried everything and everyone was encouraging me to have him put to sleep. Dr. West was my last hope for my baby. One behavioral consult, prozac and a new training program later, I have a happy dog and family! Levi slept for the first time at age 4 1/2. He is now so happy and loving. While he will never be perfect with all his issues, he is happy and we fall more in love with him every day. Thank you, Dr. West, for saving my little Levi's life!!! Dr. West is also great with my other GSDs and I love how sensitive she is to their emotional needs as well as their physical needs.

Move to Australia
-Rebecca from Bremerton, WA
Pet Name: PhilMy Boy Phil, a short-hair pointer mix, had gotten into an accident and our move to Australia was subsequently delayed. Jika was incredible and got us back on track. She not only made sure that Phil was up to date on all of his shots but found out some new requirements for his arrival of which I was unaware. Jika also got the State Vet, who had to sign off on all the information, to call ME! I didn't have to chase him down which had been the case when I was in Ohio. Jika really cared about getting all the information correct and genuinely cared about our safe arrival here. What a great hospital and Jika rocks!

Bella to New Zealand
-Mo and Duke from Kirkland,, WA
Pet Name: BellaMy husband and I have a home in New Zealand and reluctantly, had not taken our dog Bella due to the 30 day quarantine period. When we learned the quarantine period was reduced to 10 days in May of 2011, we jumped on the opportunity to have her with us as we were planning on staying for 6 months. The policies and procedures for importing animals into New Zealand is extremely stringent and, after looking at the thick document detailing the requirements, I called VCA Redwood Animal Hospital and Jika Martinez became our saving grace. She thoroughly researched all of the paperwork and worked diligently with us, IPT in Los Angeles and Pethaven in Auckland to make sure all tests and procedures were done in a timely manner to ensure Bella's safe passage. Trust me, this was no easy or stress free feat! Jika and all of the vets at Redwood were so professional, helpful, friendly and accomodating throughout the process. We're very thankful to them all for their help. I would recommend VCA Redwood to anyone who was looking into International travel for their pet. We only have a relatively short time with our furry pals and it's great to have Bella with us here. She is thoroughly enjoying the southern hemisphere. Thank you VCA Redwood and Jika for making it happen!!!!
