Hot Fun in the Summertime!

Summertime is here. If you spend time outdoors this summer with your furry best friends, here are some tips to help keep them healthy and safe.

Check-up- a summer check-up is recommended to assure your pet is healthy and free of parasites this summer. Is your dog and cat on a heartworm preventative? Flea and tick preventative? If not, make an appointment today!

No Parking!- Never leave your pet alone in a parked car. A shady spot and open windows will not keep your pet cool. Heatstroke can be fatal and is preventable.

Pool time- Never leave your dog unsupervised around a pool. Not all dogs are good swimmers. If your dog does take a dip, make sure to rinse him or her off after swimming to remove any chlorine or other chemicals from their fur.

Exercise- In extreme heat, we recommend to keep your pets indoors. The best time to exercise your pet is in the early morning or evening when temperatures are cooler. Avoid letting your dog walk on hot asphalt. The asphalt can burn sensitive paw pads.

Picnic time- Keep citronella candles, matches, lighter fluid, fireworks, alcoholic beverages, chocolate, grapes, onions, raisins and any product with the sweetner xylitol, away from pets.

Grooming- a short haircut can keep your dog cool this summer. Make a grooming appointment today!
