VCA Montgomery Road Animal Hospital

Feline Radioactive Thyroid (I-131) Treatment

Feline Practitioner, Dr. Rosemary Williams offers Radioactive Iodine treatment at VCA Montgomery Road Animal Hospital several times a month. This specialized therapy is provided in a specially created nuclear room and is unique to the area.  Kitties are accepted by referral from your regular veterinarian. Once here, your friend receives a thorough screening by Dr. Williams including abdominal and cardiac ultrasounds, blood pressure and physical exam.  Cat's accepted for therapy receive an injection of Iodine 131 and reside with us for a few days in private, comfortable condos as their bodies excrete the iodine.

Hyperthyroidism is a condition where the thyroid glands produce an excess of a hormone that controls the metabolic rate. This accelerates wear and tear on the cat's internal organs.  Radioactive Iodine Therapy is now considered the treatment of choice for Feline Hyperthyroidism.  The therapy is 96% effective with one treatment.
