Veterinary Support

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician

    Heather Halvorsen

I started my career in the field of Veterinary medicine as a Veterinary Assistant in December 1994. In August 2001 I became a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). I have been a part of the Manito Veterinary Hospital team since June 1998. My passion is in the area of dentistry. Over the years I have had many pets including cats, dogs, birds, pocket pets and reptiles. My mission is to take care of your loved ones as is if they were my own. You're in good hands.

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician

    Kim Imel

    Kim Imel, LVT, CPDT-KA
Kim began her career in veterinary medicine in 1988 and obtained her technician license in 1994. Over the years she has worked in general practice, orthopedics, alternative medicine, shelter medicine, and hospital administration. Her passion, however, is behavior, especially canine behavior. Kim loves interacting with clients, helping them to better understand their pet’s care needs.

Outside of veterinary medicine, Kim has been a professional dog trainer/instructor with Diamonds in the Ruff since 1998 and completed the requirements to earn her CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed) in 2012. Kim is the program coordinator for the Pawsitive Dog Training – Prison Program at Airway Heights Corrections Center, which is one of her greatest joys.

For fun Kim loves spending time with family and friends, knitting for charity and working with and playing with her ‘fur kids’ which consist of two cats, Dawson and Ella, and two dogs, Mackenzie and Wrigley.

  • Veterinary Assistant

    Sarah Breshears
    School: Carrington College, Veterinary Assistant

I started working here at VCA Manito Animal Hospital in April of 2013. I’m a 2008 graduate from Carrington College’s veterinary assistant program, and currently working toward becoming a licensed technician. I’ve been around animals ever since I can remember, raised showing horses in 4-H and showing hogs through high school in FFA. The last 8 years I’ve been showing and working with draft horses, both owned by other people and my own. I have 2 dogs, Suzie (Pit Bull Mix) and Rylie (Jack Russell Terrier); and a cat, Sheva. Currently I have 6 draft horses…Hank, Henry, Ruthie, Sally, April and DeMayo.

  • Veterinary Assistant

    Nicole Ferns
    School: Appollo College, Veterinary Assistant

Hi, my name is Nicole Ferns. I have worked in the veterinary field since 2005, but I have always had a pet. I graduated from Mount Spokane High School. I earned my AA from Spokane Community College. After that, I went to Apollo College where I graduated from the Veterinarian Assistant Program. I have also had my Veterinary Medication Clerk Registration since 2011. Currently I'm working on passing the Veterinary Technician National Exam. I have been married for 13 years and help take care of 7 dogs. There are 2 German Shepherds (Zuko-4 years, Ed-3 years), Smooth Coat Fox Terrier ( Gidget-6 years), Alaskan Malamute ( Moondoggie- 4 years) and 3 Chihuahuas ( Sammy-10 years, Todd-4 years, and Mac-16 weeks). I love the whole pack and would not trade them for anything.

  • Veterinary Assistant

    Mike Holmesmith

I’ve been working with animals since 2001, both in Washington and Texas. I’ve worked with dogs, cats, exotics, and wildlife rehab; and have found my favorite part of the job is when we can treat a pet who is sick or injured and send them home in better health. Out side of working at VCA Manito, my wife and I pastor a small church and have 3 cats of our own.
