VCA James River Animal Hospital

Boarding and Grooming

We board animals as a service to our clients on a reservation basis. Any animal that has not previously been seen by our doctor needs to be scheduled for an examination to establish a medical history so we can better care for your pet during their stay. Every dog is kept in an individual space, walked outside at least two times daily and toys are provided for supervised play time out side. Cats are kept in a separate area away from our barking friends and are let out of there kennel for supervised play time. All pets are fed Science Diet pet food twice daily unless otherwise instructed. If your pet is on a special diet or you just don’t want a change in diet during their stay here, please bring the desired food in with them. Should a medical problem become apparent while your pet is boarding with us, we will make every attempt to contact you and your pet will be treated by our veterinarian. Please be sure to leave an emergency phone number at which we can contact you in the unlikely event that it would become necessary. All boarders must have proof of current immunizations, or they will be updated while at our hospital. Animals will be released during regular office hours. Our boarding charges are based on weight for dogs and a flat fee for cats. We charge by the night for all animals staying with us. Please call for a specific quote for your companion.

We welcome your pet to our full service grooming packages for dogs and cats. Our professional groomer, Shelly, has over 23 years of experience. She is well experienced with styles for every breed, including show quality cuts. Every pet has 90 minutes of one on one time with Shelly. Grooming includes a bath, nail trim, anal gland expression, ear cleaning, and removal of ear hair. Shelly will blow dry your pet by hand and dremel toe nails to alleviate sharp nails. Your pet will rarely ever be placed in a cage because appointments are set so that you may pick your pet up after the 90 minute appointment. Routine grooming by a professional will help your pet in more ways than just smelling better. Shelly has been working with animals for many years and if there is a health concern she will advise you and the veterinarian of her findings. Prices are based upon size and condition of your pet’s coat.
