Shara Carlton, DVM, Medical Director

DVM, Texas A&M University

Dr. Shara Carlton is a Texas native. She graduated from the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. After a year in private practice in Lubbock, she moved to Heidelberg, Germany, to practice as a civilian veterinarian on US Army posts, providing care for Soldiers’ families and pets. She was there for 3 years and took advantage of the opportunity to travel extensively. In 2004, she moved to Washington, D.C., and practiced another 3 years in a Northern Virginia private practice. While in practice she felt a “home sickness” for military families and joined the US Army Veterinary Corps in 2007. Her military career led to wonderful experiences, including a deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Uncle Sam moved her to Fort Sam Houston in 2010. Being back in Texas to live for the first time in 11 years, she didn’t want to leave her family and this wonderful state again, so she decided to return to private practice in 2011.
Dr. Carlton shares her office and home with her 15 year old friend Albert, a big orange mix breed dog and Stevie Wonderful, a little blind terrier that wandered into her life last year. They share the house with 5 cats, Audrey and Bob, Zombie and the twins- Popcorn and Peanut. She enjoys travel, gardening and interior design/home improvement projects.
