Albert Conover, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Conover has always had a love for animals and a very active interest in science. In high school, when classes were finished, he would be greeted by his pet crow, Clyde. Since that time, Dr. Conover has raised and bred various birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, dogs, and cats.

After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, he spent two and a half years working towards his master’s degree in zoology at Southern Illinois University. Prior to vet school, Dr. Conover also taught earth science and biology at Sterling High School in New Jersey.

Pursuant to his dreams and goals, Dr. Conover received his DVM degree from the University of the Philippines in 1974. During this time, he also published several scientific articles and received recognition from the US CIVAC Mission 1st Civil Affairs Battalion for his help in eliminating rabies from Bohol Island of the Philippines.

After graduating, Dr. Conover became an associate of Hauppauge Animal Hospital and a partner in 1976. Along with several other veterinarians, he was monumental in the creation of the Animal Emergency Service. In addition, Dr. Conover has always been an active participant in continuing education and is a member of numerous local and national veterinary medical associations.

Dr. Conover resides in Port Jefferson with his wife of 46 years. During his free time, he can be found spending time with his three daughters and six grandchildren. Dr. Conover also enjoys water sports, gardening, photography, carpentry, drawing, music, dancing, cooking, and wine tasting.
