Caitlin Fitzgerald, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

DVM, Western University of Health Sciences

Dr. Caitlin Fitzgerald grew up close by, in Queens, NY. Her initial animal-interests were focused in zoo medicine. Dr. Fitzgerald spent several summers working in the Bronx Zoo's bird department and in their health care center. She received her undergraduate degree in animal science from Cornell University. After graduation, Dr. Fitzgerald worked as a veterinary assistant for two years and spent some time helping with avian-behavior research in Texas. She then went on to veterinary school at Western University of Health Sciences(Pomona, California), where there was a strong emphasis on problem-based learning from the first year.

During veterinary school, Dr. Fitzgerald helped to restart the International Veterinary Student's Association (IVSA) as an active chapter in her school. As part of IVSA, she attended international veterinary student conferences in South Africa and Grenada and also helped plan diversity events at her school. During those conferences, she not only experienced the wildlife of those countries, but she also attended lectures at their local veterinary schools. She graduated from Western University in 2012, receiving her DVM, and spent the next year at a rigorous rotating internship at the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center of Westbury.

Outside of the clinic, Dr. Fitzgerald enjoys hanging out with her dog, Odie, dancing, and traveling.
