Pet adoption is an excellent way to welcome a new animal companion into your home. There are countless dogs and cats in shelters who need a home. Unfortunately, many animals in this situation have been victims of abuse, and their trauma may cause them to exhibit traits that make them less likely to be adopted.
Fortunately, pet foster parents offer a solution to this issue. These individuals volunteer to take in a cat or dog and help them adjust to life with a human companion until a permanent home can be found. The owners are also able to monitor cat or dog health in case the animal needs to visit a veterinarian health clinic.
The newspaper tells the story of one dog, named Sweet Pea, who was terrified by nearly everything she encountered after she was rescued from an abusive home. Had it not been for a foster family willing to take her into their home, she would likely have never been adopted.
According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, there are 5 to 7 million pets taken into animal shelters in the U.S. every year.
