Gary Harrison, DVM, Staff Veterinarian
As a child, I remember "trying" to rescue a wild crane, my brother and I found in a swamp; we were unsuccessful. Another memory I have, involved our family pet dog that became ill and I remember the 6 hour long trip up to New York Sate Cornell University Animal Hospital. The facility impressed me and I thought it cool, a hospital for animals!
After entering Queens College as an undergraduate in New York, I hadn’t decided what I wanted to do. Having always been fascinated with biology and my love for animals, pushed me in the direction of pursuing a career in veterinary medicine.
I was fortunate to have obtained my veterinary degree from the University of Liege, Brussels, Belgium and was graduated in 1982.
In 1988, I started my own veterinary practice in New York and after 17 years relocated with my wife Meg and daughter Danielle to Florida to continue practicing. I have three pets, Julie a Min Pin and Zoey a PomPoo and Tommy the cat.
I have always felt that I never had a real job because working with and helping animals gives me so much pleasure I don't consider it to be work, it’s what I do and it’s what keeps me going.
