Shuna Cerrato, DVM, Medical Director

DVM, Washington State University

Dr. Cerrato (formerly Klaveness) was raised in Northern California on a small hobby farm, and has always loved animals. She earned an undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Oberlin College in 1998 and worked in the field of neuroimaging research in Boston prior to pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. She received her DVM degree, graduating with honors, from Washington State University in 2005. She did an optional year-long internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center in New York City, a world-renowned specialty referral hospital. She practiced as an emergency and critical care veterinarian at the VCA Veterinary Specialty Center of Seattle from 2006 to 2010, where she worked closely with specialists and also enjoyed teaching young veterinarians who were doing their internships there. She got married in the summer of 2010, and it was a desire for a day practice schedule that led to her joining VCA Crown Hill Animal Hospital. Her specific areas of interest are soft tissue surgery, preventive care, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and diagnostic imaging. She feels privileged to be able to work with animals and the people who love them.

She lives in Ballard with her husband George and rescued French Bulldog Kerbie, and spends her free time cooking, traveling, reading, walking, and enjoying the cultural and outdoor activities that the Seattle area has to offer.
