Dr. Sara Cumbus is a South Carolina native that has lived in North Carolina since 1968. She attended Meredith College and in 1989 she completed her B.S. in biology at the University of South Carolina; in 1993 she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree at North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine. She worked several years as an associate before buying a small practice in North Carolina. Dr. Cumbus left private practice to work in the teaching hospital at NCSU-College of Veterinary Medicine in the emergency service department. She provided relief services to many North Carolina practices, as well as continuing to work in emergency medicine prior to joining the staff at VCA Cornerstone Animal Hospital.

Dr. Cumbus is a consultant with GLG Councils, an international consulting group where she advises companies needing veterinary information; additionally she is a volunteer in theTurks and Caicos Veterinary Associates, located in the Turks and Caicos Islands, a non-profit hospital providing local islanders with veterinary care. Dr. Cumbus has special interests in canine and feline massage, orthopedic and soft tissue surgery, canine rehabilitation and wildlife rehabilitation. She enjoys hockey, golf, sailing, horseback riding, photography, and spending time with her son and husband. Dr. Cumbus also shares her home with a lab mix and five rescue cats.
