Ingramar Caliolio, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

DVM, University of the Philippines

Biography

Dr. Caliolio was raised in the rural area of the Philippines in the constant company of cats and dogs, while raising chickens, ducks, and pigs to earn his primary and secondary education. He spent his school breaks tending to his grandparents water buffaloes.

He obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City Philippines. His undergraduate thesis, "Early Detection of Rabies Using the Sellers Stain and the Fluorescent Antibody Technique with Mouse Inoculation Technique" may have helped improve early rabies detection in suspect animals in the Philippines. He placed in the top 2% on the Philippine Veterinary Licensure exam in 1986.

In the early years of his clinical practice, he pioneered one of the early small animal emergency veterinary practices in Metro Manila along with two other veterinarians. He also worked in companion animal and exotic animal medicine at the center of the busiest animal acquisition areas in the Philippines. In between his busy schedule, he was a part-time technical consultant with a local veterinary pharmaceutical company and a lecturer with a private veterinary review center teaching pathology, pharmacology and internal medicine preparatory to the National Veterinary Licensure Exam. Despite his busy schedule, he took time off to help educate small scale food animal producers and farmers in the countryside while serving as a consultant in some private and community piggery and poultry farms.

After moving to the U.S., he went to the Animal Medical Center in New York City to pursue an Intensive Post Graduate Course in Internal Medicine and rotated through their different medical services while pursuing his U.S. veterinary license. He went on to work with different small animal hospitals under the tutelage of several experienced clinicians on the east coast to further improve his clinical skills and diagnostic aptitude. He underwent a year of Clinical Evaluation at Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton, MA to complete his ECFVG licensure requirements. He currently holds veterinary licenses in NY, MA, NJ, VA, and CA.

Dr. Caliolio has a special interest in internal medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology, surgery, infectious diseases, public health, and emergency medicine. He shares his free time with his wife, a daughter, a son, and his cat Mushu. He loves to cook, read, pencil sketch, and exercise at the gym. He plans to go back to the Philippines during his sabbatical leave to teach biology and chemistry in depressed area high schools. Before he retires, he intends to train future clinicians in some veterinary training centers in third world countries.
