World's smallest dog becomes face of adoption campaign

Beyonce the puppy was so small she could fit on a spoon when she was first born, but since then, the Dachshund mix has done more than find a place in the record books. She is now the face of an adoption campaign for the Grace Foundation in El Dorado Hills, California, The Huffington Post reports.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, approximately 5 to 7 million animals enter shelters each year, and millions more live on the streets. Because there are about 5,000 independent community shelters nationwide with no national organization funding them, they are often overcrowded and unable to provide care such as cat and dog vaccinations for all the animals surrendered. About 60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats are euthanized each year, the organization reports.

That is why the Grace Foundation is working to promote spaying and neutering to combat pet overpopulation and adoption to support shelters, the news outlet reports. VCA Animal Hospitals partners with shelters across the nation to provide veterinary care so healthy animals get adopted.
