  • Kennel Assistant

    John Ayotte

    John joined the team at VCA Brookline Animal Hospital in the summer of 2010.  Prior to joining our team, John was working as a freelance graphic designer. He enjoys working with animals and is particulary interested in the general care of cats and dogs. He enjoys walking and caring for the dogs, as well as running playgroups. John is pictured above with our friend Erie the Greyhound, and he hopes to own a greyhound of his own one day. John is also intested in customer service and is learning technical skills, as he hopes to be a veterinary assistant or technician in the future.

    Wesley Chin

    Wesley joined the team at VCA Brookline Animal Hospital in 2008. He is currently a student at Bunker Hill Community College, where he is persuing courses to enhance his veterinary knowledge. Wesley plans to continue working with animals and hopes to become an animal behaviorist. He lives locally with his dogs, KoKo, Duke, and Lady.

    Jackie Depew
    School: Boston University

    A transfer from a sister hospital, VCA Brookline is lucky to have Jackie taking care of the many boarders on the busy weekends. With a background with all types of animals, including horses, marine life, and domestic animals, handling the many dogs and cats comes naturally to her. She is currently a student at Boston University working towards her bachelor’s degree in behavioral biology and classic civilization, and plans on attending veterinary school after graduation. In her free time she enjoys travel, running and horseback riding.

    Eva McCown
    School: Framingham State

    Eva joined our staff after volunteering in our treatment area while she was still in high school. She excels at working in our busy boarding kennel, and loves supervising the many playgroups that go on during the day.  Eva is a hard working college student and has a special love for poodles- as she has two of her own at home, Freddie and Ginger.

    Juanita Pires
    Veterinary Tech School: Mount Ida

    Juanita joined the kennel staff in spring of 2014. In between working here in the kennel, she is a busy Mt Ida College studying veterinary technology, and is aspiring to become a successful veterinary technician upon graduation. In addition to her background in retail, she also worked in the kennel at Mt Ida, and brings her experience and love of animals to VCA Brookline. Juanita lives locally and enjoys spending time with her friends.

    Rhonda Pollini
    School: Roxbury Community College, Certified Veterinary Assistant

    Another graduate of the Veterinary Assistant Certification program, Rhonda joined the kennel staff early in 2014. A strong addition to our team, she has a particular interest in animal husbandry and ensures all of our boarders are comfortable during their stay here. When not working, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her nephew. She lives locally with her kitty, Dale.

    Miranda Reville
    School: Roxbury Community College, Certified Veterinary Assistant

    After successful completion of the Veterinary Assistant program at Roxbury Community College, Miranda joined the kennel staff of the VCA Brookline Animal Hospital. She aspires to one day enhance her skills and work as a technician. The many dogs that board with us adore her, and she makes sure to give them all special attention. In her free time, she also works as a classroom assistant working with children. Miranda lives locally with her dog, Sadie.

    Andre Scott
    School: Roxbury Community College, Certified Veterinary Assistant

    After obtaining his certificate as a Veterinary Assistant from the Roxbury Community College, Andre joined the kennel staff to continue using the skills that he obtained through his class. When Andre is not working hard taking care of all the pets in the kennel, he likes hang out with friends, watch movies, and playing football. He lives locally with his dog, Oreo.

    Hope Singer

    Before joining Brookline Animal Hospital’s team, Hope interned at the Gifford Cat Shelter. It was while there that she decided she’d like to expand her horizons and work with dogs as well as cats. She came to our team to explore the field of grooming but found her true love to be working with the animals spending their days and nights in our daycare and boarding facility. 

    She enjoys learning new things with a hands-on approach and sharing her love of animals.

    Karein van der Lee

    Karein joined the team at VCA Brookline animal hospital over a decade ago and has devoted her life to the care of pets and their owners. She is very passionate about the human-animal bond. Karein gives special attention to every animal under her care, and is skilled and caring enough to notice any changes in an animal and bring it to a doctor's attention. Karein lives locally with her cat, Zuzu.


  • Groomer

    Joyce Kahakalau
    School: Mt. Ida College, Bancroft School of Massage

    Joyce joined the team at VCA Brookline Animal Hospital in 2008. Prior to joining our team, she owned her own mobile pet grooming business. She has also worked as a groomer and grooming instructor for over 20 years. She is passionate about continuing education and has completed a series of seminars on skin and coat care and grooming. She has certificates in both grooming and canine behavior and training as well as small animal massage. She is also a special needs pet advocate. She loves grooming and wants to make your precious pet look beautiful.
