Biography


Dr. Amanda Forgeng, born in Newport News, VA, is a 2002 Virginia Tech graduate with a B.S in Animal Science. She attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with Clinical Rotations at North Carolina State University School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating in January 2006, she joined the team at Boulevard Animal Hospital and was recently promoted to the position of Medical Director. She has enjoyed advancing her career in surgery, dentistry and ultrasonography and is a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners. She has taken over 100 credit hours of continuing education in courses such as AO North American Principles of Small Animal Fracture Management, Feline Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Canine and Feline Oral Surgery and Digital Dental Radiography, Introductory Ultrasound/ Echocardiogram, and Soft Tissue Diagnostics. Her studies and experience have allowed her to perform a variety of surgeries including but not limited to: Extracapsular Stifle Stabilization, Medial Patellar Luxation Repair, Plate and Pin application for Fracture repairs, Femoral Head Osteotomy, Amputation, Perineal Urethrostomy, Gastrotomy, Enterotomy, Intestinal Resection and Anastamosis, Cystotomy, Splenectomy, Caudectomy, Mastectomy, Entropion Repair, Third Eyelid Repair, and Corneal Grid Kerotectomy. She also leads the staff in an advanced dental program that includes digital radiographs, local nerve blocks, gingival flap surgery, root sectioning, and mass removals. Dr. Forgeng enjoys mentoring students and has trained several technicians through Blue Ridge College for Veterinary Technology. She is USDA accredited and is a member for AVMA and VVMA. As a Newport News native, Dr. Forgeng spends her free time with family, friends, and her new born son. Most weekends you can find her on the James River reeling in a striped bass, a doormat, and, if she’s lucky, a cobia. She is an active member of her church, has recently started mandolin lessons, is learning charcoal drawing, and perfecting the art of raising a child.
