The Happy Dog Barkery in Downers Grove, Illinois, is allowing a series of dog rescue organizations to set up shop in front of their store to promote pet adoption, according to the Downers Grove Patch.

Many groups have taken their turn in front of the store, which is located on the main street of the town, in hopes that rescue dogs can get a shot at finding a home, which could help improve canine health. A Golden Retriever organization was at the store earlier this month, and explained that it created a lot of attention from residents walking down the street, according to the media outlet.

"Before I even got involved with the store, I was fostering, so I was into the dog rescues already," the co-owner of the shop, Beth Staley, told the news source. "We like to promote adoption so it's a natural thing to have different groups each week to show what they're about."

According to the Humane Society, 19 percent of dogs owned were adopted from animal shelters in 2009.
