VCA Asher Animal Hospital

Sarah Mathews, DVM, Associate Veterinarian

DVM, University of California, Davis

Biography

Dr. Mathews grew up in the Bay Area, but became very familiar with the Redding area at a very early age since family vacations were spent house boating on Lake Shasta on a yearly basis. Her family moved up to Redding during her freshman year in college and she started working at VCA Asher Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant in 2005. Dr. Mathews completed her undergraduate training at UC Davis where she earned a B.S. in Animal Science in 2006. She then went on to attend veterinary school at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her D.V.M and graduated in the top 10% of her class in 2010. Dr. Mathews then completed a 1 year rotating internship in a 24 hour emergency and specialty referral hospital at Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles, CA. After completing her internship in June 2011, Dr. Mathews eagerly moved back up to Redding and started working as a veterinarian here at VCA Asher Animal Hospital. She is very happy to be back in the North State and to be working with her Asher family again. Her special interests include feline medicine, internal medicine, and nutrition. She also enjoys critical care and ophthalmology. Her hobbies include hiking, playing sports (especially volleyball, basketball, and softball), practicing yoga, dancing, cooking, and pretty much doing anything outdoors. She has a beautiful orange tabby named Maggie, a long-haired calico named Mona, and cute little grey and white kitty named Gemmie.
