Technician SupervisorJena Carrington
Jena has been at VCA Animal Care since May of 2009. She has been in the veterinary field since 1996 and is attending school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician as well as a Dog Trainer/ Instructor. She has 8 years of previous experience. Through out the years of working in the Veterinary field, she has worked in all areas of the hospital but have spent most of her time as an Assistant. As the Technical Supervisor, she plays many roles in the hospital. She helps with pre/post care of all surgery patients, patient care in exam rooms, educating clients and in charge of ordering all medical supplies. She takes pride in the fact that she's continuing her education to receive her LVT and Dog Training License, so she can be more of an asset to her hospital and be able to help animals in many different ways. Jena has three dogs, a chihuahua named Layla Ann, and two pitbulls named Quinn and Georgia. She also has two cats named Dylan James and Sophie. She enjoys hiking, camping, zumba, Crossfit, spending time at the beach, participating in charity events, and most importantly playing with her animal companions.
Veterinary AssistantSteven Bateman
Steven is from Portsmouth and has been with VCA and in the animal health care field since 2002. Prior to working with our team, he worked in the restaurant industry, movie theater and in a warehouse. His role in the hospital is an assistant.He helps manage the laboratory supplies and maintain the surgical packs.Steven enjoys helping in surgery and working with exotics. He is particularly fond of rats. His fur babies include Elmer the rabbit, Mo and Chewy, the cats. His favorite breeds of dogs are the Golden Retriever and the Pit Bull. In his spare time, Steven enjoys taking judo classes, playing the banjo, reading, kayaking and canoeing.
Veterinary AssistantMichael Monroe
Michael has been with VCA since May 2010. He has been in the Animal Health/Welfare field for nearly 25 years, and has worked with everything from Mice to African Elephants! Michael lives on a small farm in North Carolina. His fur babies include Teddy the Chihuahua who is 12 years old, Elmo the Lilac Fronted Amazon who is 22 years old, Lucy, a DSH Cat who is 3 years old, Chloe the Leopard Gecko, Ozzie the Bearded Dragon and Ratatooee the Rat. His role in the hospital is an assistant. He loves working with the senior pets and educating clients. Michael enjoys working with all our clients, especially those who have senior pets!! Outside of work, he enjoys reading and sleeping.
Veterinary AssistantAlbert Phipps
Albert was born and raised on the island of St. Thomas and a true island boy. He has been with us since 2006.He is currently a veterinary assistant looking to further his career as a Licensed Veterinary Technician or even achieve his ultimate goal of becoming a veterinarian. Albert has two adorable cats named Dolly and T.J. Hooker. He enjoys working in the veterinary field. In his spare time, Albert loves to play basketball, lift weights, and working on cars.
