  • Technician Supervisor

    Jena Carrington

    Jena has been at VCA Animal Care since May of 2009. She has been in the veterinary field since 1996 and is attending school to become a Licensed Veterinary Technician as wwll as a Dog Trainer/ Instructor.  Jena has a chihuahua named Layla Ann, who loves to go hiking with her.  She also has a cat named Dylan James, who enjoys a lot of cuddle time and watching birds eat from the bird feeders.  Jena is looking forward to meeting you and your furry family.


  • Veterinary Assistant

    Steven Bateman

    Steven is from Portsmouth and has been with VCA and in the animal health care field since 2002. Steven enjoys helping in surgery and working with exotics. He is particularly fond of rats. In his spare time, Steven enjoys taking judo classes, playing the banjo, and reading. He has a dog named Bert and two cats named Mo and chewy.

  • Veterinary Assistant

    Radricka Becnel

    Radricka is originally from New Orleans and lived in Texas for 5 years before moving to Virginia in March 2011. She has wanted to work in the veterinary field for as long as she can remember. She originally started Vet Tech training in the fall of 2008 and worked in her first vet hospital in the summer 2008. She is currently completing her education online at Penn Foster and hope to become licensed soon.
    She loves all kinds of animals, singing and dancing!

  • Veterinary Assistant

    Michael Monroe

    Michael has been with VCA since May 2010. He has been in the Animal Health/Welfare field for nearly 25 years, and has worked with everything from Mice to African Elephants! Michael lives on a small farm in North Carolina, which is also home to 2 dogs: English Mastiff -  Pearl, Chihuahua - Teddy,  Cats - Twix and Lucy, Elmo the Lilac-Fronted Amazon, a horse named Pete, at least 35 chickens, and a turkey named Bob. Michael enjoys working with all our clients, especially those who have senior pets!!

    Albert Phipps

    Albert was born and raised on the island of St. Thomas and a true island boy. He has been with us since 2006.He is currently a veterinary assistant looking to further his career as a Licensed Veterinary Technician or even achieve his ultimate goal of becoming a veterinarian. Albert has two adorable cats named Princess and T.J. Hooker. He enjoys working in the veterinary field. In his spare time, Albert loves to play basketball, lift weights, and working on cars.
