Biography
Dr. Melissa Wallace joined VCA All About Pets in July of 2012. Dr. Wallace grew up in central Minnesota and received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota, Duluth (B.S.) and her DVM degree from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in St. Paul. Following graduation from veterinary school, she completed a rotating internship in Medicine and Surgery, followed by a residency in Internal Medicine, at The Animal Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Wallace served as a staff internist and the service head of Nephrology, Urology and Endocrinology at The AMC from 1991 - 1999. She became board-certified as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1992. Wanting to get back to the Midwest, she taught veterinary students and residents, and treated internal medicine cases at the teaching hospital of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine from 2000 – 2003, before joining VCA as a Regional Medical Director. In that role, Dr. Wallace assisted VCA Animal Hospitals in MN, WI, IL, MO, KS, MI and OH with recruiting high quality doctors, and with quality of care oversight, consultations and medical initiatives. Recently, Dr. Wallace decided she missed practicing medicine on a day to day basis, so she joined us here at VCA All About Pets as both a practicing veterinarian and as our Medical Director.
Dr. Wallace has a passion for all things “internal” in dogs and cats. Her areas of special interest and expertise are endocrine (i.e. hormonal) diseases and urinary tract / kidney diseases. Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys canoeing, hiking with her dog, skiing and snowshoeing, gardening, reading, and visiting northwestern Wisconsin. She has two members in her pet family; a small Jack Russell Terrier named Bonnie and a large orange Tabby named Sonny.
