Laura Ruff, DVM, Staff Veterinarian
Biography
Dr. Ruff is a Denver native who earned her BS in biochemistry from Colorado State University in 1987 and her D.V.M. from the University of Minnesota in 2000.
In the years following her undergraduate work and prior to veterinary medicine school, she worked at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio as a professional research assistant focused on metabolic disease states and pulmonary hypertension. She did a small animal medicine and surgery internship at AEVH from 2000-2001. She worked full-time in a veterinary emergency clinic in 2001, as well as part-time for Alameda East. In 2002 Dr. Ruff returned full-time to the Alameda East staff.
Professionally, Dr. Ruff still has an interest in emergency/critical care. However, she is looking forward to building strong bonds with her general practice patients during the days, while being able to spend most evenings with her husband. She is active in the following professional organizations: AVMA, DAVMS, VECCS, and served on the board for DAVMS 2004-2006 and 2011-2013.
Dr. Ruff and her husband, Bob, have two dogs, Bogart and Tallulah. Bogart was adopted from the former Colorado Humane Society, is a Canine Good Citizen and was one of Alameda's blood donors in his younger days. Tallulah is their 'tripod' who was adopted from the clinic and doesn't miss her left hind leg except when she needs to scratch her left ear. They also have two cats adopted from the clinic, Zaya and L.S. The cats love Bogart, but are less than thrilled with the newest 'tripod' addition to the family.
"Veterinary medicine was my destiny. What else would I become with the last name Ruff?"
