Jorge Alvarez, DVM, Staff Veterinarian

DVM, University of Florida

Biography

Dr. Alvarez fell in love with Colorado over ten years ago during his first ski trip to Breckenridge as a high school student. Since then, it has always been his dream to live near the mountains and he's thrilled to finally have the opportunity to practice medicine in such a beautiful city. He grew up in Orlando, FL, and graduated from Rollins College with a degree in Biology and Music Performance (Cello) in 2008. Prior to veterinary school, he spent some time learning about foreign animal diseases in Greece and South Africa and later founded JLImageStudio, a photography and digital imaging company.

Jorge stayed close to home for his veterinary education and graduated with a DVM degree in 2013 from University of Florida. During this time, he collaborated with the small animal surgery department to produce high-definition educational videos for advanced and laparoscopic surgical procedures. Jorge traveled to Ecuador in 2010 to serve as a medical volunteer and translator, and aided in conservation medicine efforts in Thailand and Vietnam in June 2011.

Professionally, he is interested in ophthalmology, cardiology, and avian surgery. He moved to Denver with his calico cat, Miya, and black lab, Hudson. During his time off, Jorge enjoys pretty much all outdoor activities as well as playing his cello and picking up a game of tennis. He is excited to be a part of the Alameda East family!
